Day 4 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s fourth Test saw Jasprit Bumrah shine with a brilliant spell, claiming three quick wickets in the second session. His efforts reduced Australia to 91/6 and gave India hope for a comeback. However, missed opportunities in the field, especially by Yashasvi Jaiswal, left captain Rohit Sharma fuming.

Jaiswal dropped three important catches during the session. The first was a tough chance at leg gully off Bumrah’s delivery to Usman Khawaja. He was too close, which affected his ability to react. The second drop, a much easier one, came when Marnus Labuschagne edged a delivery straight to Jaiswal at gully, but he fumbled it. Rohit’s frustration was visible, with commentators noting his reaction. The third drop happened at silly point when a Ravindra Jadeja delivery popped up off Pat Cummins’ bat, and Jaiswal missed again.

While Jaiswal’s errors proved costly, commentators like Mike Hussey felt Rohit could have shown more calm and support for the young player instead of reacting harshly.

On the bowling front, Bumrah was exceptional, taking 4/30 in 14 overs. His performance took his tally to 29 wickets in the series and 200 wickets in his Test career. By tea, Australia was 135/6, with Labuschagne (65*) and Cummins (21*) stabilizing the innings.

Despite Bumrah’s heroics, Australia was still in control with a 240-run lead. The pitch’s variable bounce posed further challenges for India as they faced a tough chase on the final day.
