August 7, 2024 at 7:43 AMIndian pacer Shardul Thakur criticized Australia for treating the Indian team poorly during the final Test match in Brisbane. He revealed that the players had no housekeeping for four to five days and had to do everything themselves. This tension followed incidents of racial abuse directed at Indian players Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj by the crowd during the previous Test in Sydney. With the series tied at 1-1 and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at stake, the pressure was high.
"The way they treated us was terrible. For four or five days, we had no housekeeping service at the hotel. If we wanted to change our bed sheets, we had to climb four or five floors, get the sheets ourselves when we were already tired, and then change them ourselves," Thakur said.
The abuse continued in Brisbane, with Siraj and Washington Sundar facing it on Day 1.
"Going from Sydney to Brisbane, we heard the governor of Queensland saying if the Indians don’t want to come here, then don’t come, we don’t want to host them. There were a lot of negative things said about us to put us under pressure," Thakur added.
Despite these challenges, Team India made history by defeating Australia with a 3-wicket win at the Gabba, marking Australia's first defeat at the venue since 1988.
