Sanju Samson is one of the flamboyant strokemakers in Indian cricketing circles. He has put up an exhibition of his elegant batting and wreaked havoc with the bat. The wicketkeeper-batter is a proven performer in the Indian Premier League and piled on runs for fun. In the 2024 season, Samson was at his best and breached the 500-run mark. However, he had a dismal display in the Qualifier 2 and Rajasthan eventually ended up losing the game. Sunil Gavaskar has lashed out at Samson for his failure and stated that he has a habit of getting out while playing glamorous shots. The Indian legend has pointed out his shot selection as the reason for his unsteady career in Indian cricket. "What's the use of scoring 500 runs if you can't win your team the match or title? Everyone got out while playing glamorous shots. Why has Samson not had a steady India career? It's because his shot selection has let him down," he said. Gavaskar further adds that if his shot selection had been good, he would have had a long career in the Men in Blue jersey. However, the former Indian cricketer is hopeful that Samson will show his class in the T20 World Cup 2024. "If his shot selection had been good, his India career too would have been long. I hope that the opportunity he has got in the T20 World Cup, he grabs it with both hands and cements his place," Gavaskar added. Samson featured in 15 matches in the 17th IPL edition and smashed 531 runs at a strike rate of 153.47. He has been a good nick and would be eager to replicate the same in the T20 World Cup 2024. India have picked Samson and Rishabh Pant as their wicket-keepers for the marquee tournament.
