September 1, 2024 at 9:49 AMFormer England Test captain Joe Root moved closer to Sachin Tendulkar's all-time Test record after scoring his 34th century in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's. Root’s twin centuries in the match took his career total to 34, making him the England batter with the most Test centuries, surpassing Sir Alastair Cook.
Root’s current career tally stands at 12,377 runs, leaving him just 96 runs away from entering the top five all-time run-scorers in Test cricket and overtaking Cook for the most runs by an England player. Root is now only 3,544 runs behind Tendulkar's record of 15,921 runs, the highest in Test history.
When asked about the possibility of breaking Sachin's record, Root emphasized that his primary focus is on helping his team win matches rather than chasing personal milestones. He expressed his love for the game and the satisfaction of contributing to his team's victories. Root hopes to continue this form and achieve more success with England in future matches.
