Top 10 IPL Opening Partnerships

The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to begin in March 2024. There have been a lot of wonderful partnerships for IPL fans to date, and perhaps more in the next season. We'll go over the ten most successful partnerships in IPL history.

1. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers 

Virat Kohli & ABD once set an IPL record on May 14, 2016, during a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Lions in Bengaluru. They shared the biggest partnership for the second wicket, scoring 229 runs. The victory for their team was aided by the hundreds that both players achieved.

2. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers

Ab de Villiers and Virat Kohli of RCB are ranked first as well as second, for the highest partnerships in the IPL. Together, they have smashed 215 runs in 2015, and they both remained at the wicket till the very finish. They formed a partnership while playing at Wankhede against the Mumbai Indians. 

3. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock

They recorded the highest partnership for the first wicket in an IPL match in 2022. The match took place at DY Patil Stadium between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Lucknow Super Giants. Together, they ran up an undefeated 210 runs for the Super Giants.

4. Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist

On May 17, 2011, Australians Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist shared 206 runs for the second wicket. They were taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore while representing Kings XI Punjab. At the ground at Dharamshala, Gilchrist's bat struck a knock of 106.

 5. Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle

Played on May 17, 2012, in Delhi, saw a historic 204* run partnership between Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. While they were playing for RCB, they formed a partnership for the second wicket. It gave their squad the advantage over the Delhi Daredevils they needed to win the game.

6. David Warner and Naman Ojha

The two greatest players in IPL history, David Warner and Naman Ojha, were batting for the Delhi Daredevils. On May 10, 2012, they combined for a second wicket total of 189* runs. Even though Shikhar Dhawan scored 84 runs off of 49 balls, the Deccan Chargers Hyderabad squad lost by nine wickets. 

7. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow

David Warner, a batsman, is once again included in the list of the best ten IPL partnerships. This time, he and Jonny Bairstow, an England player, share the record. On March 31, 2019, the pair hit 185 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Royals. When they batted for the first wicket, Warned reached 100 without being out. 

8. Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn

On April 7, 2017, Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir struck a strong partnership of 184* runs for the first wicket in a game. They were batting for the Kolkata Knight Riders at Rajkot when they faced the Gujrat Lions. By staying out of the field until the very end of the game, both batters helped their side win by ten wickets. 

9. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, both of Kings XI Punjab, hold the record for the ninth-highest partnership in IPL history. Against the Rajasthan Royals, they struck a terrific partnership of 183 runs for the first wicket. The game took place in Sharjah on September 27, 2020.

10. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway 

They put together an outstanding 182 runs for the first wicket in May 2022. They scored the first goal for the Chennai Super Kings in a Pune encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Regretfully, Gaikwad made 99 runs before being out, one run shy of a century.
