Nissanka achieved the feat while batting against Afghanistan on Friday, 9 February in Pallekele. He became the first Sri Lanka batter to score a double hundred in ODI cricket. Nissanka scored a double century in the first ODI vs Afghanistan in Pallekele. He reached the milestones by smashing a 6 and 4.
He smashed a double hundred in 136 balls. He became the third-fastest to score a double century in ODIs. He surpassed Chris Gayle, who scored a double hundred in 136 balls, and Virendra Sehwag, who scored a double hundred in 140 balls.
He broke Sanath Jayasuriya's record of the highest score by a Sri Lanka batter in ODIs, Jayasuriya had scored 189 vs India in 2000.
While Ishan Kishan (Indian batsman) holds the record for the fastest double century in ODI cricket. He scored 200 in just 126 balls vs Bangladesh in 2022. Ishan Kishan is followed by Glenn Maxwell, who scored a double-century in 128 balls in recent time against Afghanistan in ODI World Cup 2023.
