October 26, 2023 at 12:41 PMFormer New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond, recently, took part in a rapid-fire session with ESPN Cricinfo. Bond was asked to pick one from the list of captains presented to him. Between Babar Azam and Scott Edwards, he surprised everyone by picking the Netherlands captain.
In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, Netherlands have won one match against South Africa out of five matches played so far. They are languishing at the bottom of the table. On the other hand, Babar Azam-led Pakistan haven’t done too well, either.
Pakistan are at fifth with 2 wins in 5 matches. In the same video clip, Bond then opted for Buttler ahead of Edwards. He continued to put England skipper ahead when compared with the likes of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Kusal Mendis and Shakib Al Hasan. However, when Rohit Sharma’s name came up, he went with Indian captain over Buttler. Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma has been leading the Indian team by example in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
India have won 5 out of five matches played so far in the tournament. Shane Bond, however, picked Tom Latham ahead of Rohit Sharma, making his intentions quite clear that he rates Latham more than the Indian captain.
Besides, the legendary fast bowler picked Latham ahead of the likes of Kane Williamson and Pat Cummins.
Talking about the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, the Indian team are, currently, dominating the points table with 5 wins in 5 matches, followed by South Africa and New Zealand at second and third, respectively, with 4 wins each. Australia, currently, hold the fourth spot with 3 wins in 5 matches, while Pakistan are at fifth, attaining 2 wins in 5 matches.
Surprisingly, England are languishing at 8th spot on the table with only 1 win in 4 matches. Jos Buttler-led side have disappointed one and all with their lackluster performance against teams like Afghanistan, New Zealand and South Africa to name a few.
