India's next task, a three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan at home, will begin shortly after their 1-1 Test series draw against that country. The first game is scheduled for Thursday, January 11 in Mohali.

A few well-known names have sprung to mind for the Men in Blue. The team includes a number of young players in addition to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been out of the T20I setup for more than a year.

Team India's squad for the Afghanistan T20Is: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar

However, there are also a few noteworthy absences at the same period. Although it is reasonable to believe that individuals such as Jasprit Bumrah will be chosen when necessary, there are many questions regarding the participation of others. Furthermore, fans are allowed to make their own judgments in the absence of any explicit communication from the BCCI.

These three well-known players were left out of India's squad for the Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan:

Ravindra Jadeja

While Axar Patel and Washington Sundar have been selected for the Indian team, Ravindra Jadeja is not included in the BCCI's list of names. Jadeja bowled exceptionally well during the Men in Blue's most recent T20I assignment in the Rainbow Nation, where he served as vice captain.

The left-hander hasn't exactly lit the world on fire at the plate, but he has occasionally displayed flashes of improved hitting down in the order. Considering his history with the bat as well, Axar performed admirably against Australia. But as the T20 World Cup draws near, Jadeja might make a comeback, as has been the case in the last two years in all white-ball formats.

KL Rahul

Recently, KL Rahul urged the selectors to choose him for the T20I format, but not against Afghanistan. As previously announced, Jitesh and Samson have been selected to be the wicket-keepers.

Rahul's intents have been a big issue in the shortest format, and he may be used in the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season in a middle-order capacity, according to sources. Due to a thigh injury sustained during fielding, the skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) missed a significant portion of the 2023 IPL.

In spite of his outstanding results in longer forms, it appears that Rahul will have to compete for a berth in the T20I team. In this context, the 2024 Indian Premier League may be crucial, particularly if he is able to secure a permanent spot in the batting lineup.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan withdrew from India's South Africa trip, citing personal concerns. Rumor has it that the young performer needed time off to tend to his mental health. He hasn't been chosen to take on Afghanistan, and there has been no hint regarding a possible return.

In his final T20I match, Kishan played Australia at home. He ended a protracted poor run of form by hitting at No. 3 and scoring two half-centuries, presumably making progress toward assuming the wicket-keeper position in the format.

While Rishabh Pant is still recovering, Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been selected for the Afghanistan series.
