The Indian Cricket Team has been enjoying a dream run in the 2023 World Cup. They won 9 consecutive games to become the first team to qualify for the semis. The Men in Blue put in a fantastic show with the bat against New Zealand in the 1st semi-final as they notched a huge total of 397 runs on the board. New Zealand gave a tough fight with the bat as well but fell 70 runs short in the end.

It was a memorable outing for India’s run-machine Virat Kohli, who wrote his name in the history books as he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. The foundation was set by the skipper Rohit Sharma, who played a fiery knock of 47 off just 29 balls. Both the senior batters have been in prolific form but it wouldn’t be fair to not give credit to other batters for India’s success with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer is another batter who has impressed one and all with his outstanding batting display. Iyer has scored 526 runs in 10 matches at an average of 75.14, including 2 centuries and 3 half-centuries. For the unversed, this is Shreyas Iyer’s first ever 50-over World Cup outing. Following his outstanding knock on Wednesday, he recalled the moment when he came to Wankhede Stadium during 2011 World Cup and promised his friends to play the World Cup for team India one day. On his home turf in the semi-final encounter against New Zealand, Iyer realised his dream.

“During 2011 WC final, I was sitting in North Stand, I had goosebumps when Vande Mataram was singing and I told my friends that I will also play a World Cup one day and yes, dream has come true” said Shreyas Iyer on Star Sports.

Earlier, on Wednesday, he became the first middle-order batter to score 500 runs in a World Cup. The Mumbai batter would be keen to score another big knock in the final on Sunday.
