Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was fined and banned for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. He didn’t play the Sunday’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru due to the suspension, and was not pleased after receiving a one-match ban for Delhi’s third-over-rate offense of the season.

The 52nd match of the Indian Premier League 2024 was played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 12. In the match against Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel was appointed as the stand-in captain.

The stand-in captain revealed that Rishabh Pant after learning the news that he would miss one match due to an over-rate offense was very upset. Axar with a smile on his face after being disappointed with the ban of Pant said, “Rishabh was angry about being banned, bowlers are late but the captain gets punished.”

According to Axar, Pant even filed an appeal against the suspension after he was given a one-match suspension for the team's third-over-rate offense in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Along with the team, Rishabh Pant traveled to Bengaluru, where he watched the team play from the dugout. Pant gave an advice to the stand-in captain to be motivated and focus on the process. Axar added, “But he’s at the ground, is motivated, and has told us not to feel like he’s not with us and focus on the process.”

With the ban, Rishabh Pant became the first captain to be banned for maintaining a slow-over rate in the current season. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on May 7, Delhi defeated Rajasthan, but Rishabh Pant was penalized for the team's slow over-rate.  After Delhi fell short of the required over-rate in an IPL encounter for the third time, Pant was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

After losing the match to RCB, currently DC are in the 6th position in the tables with 6 wins from 13 matches.
