The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings played a total of 7 games in which they won 4 games and lost 3. Defending champions lost their seventh game of the season by eight wickets against Lucknow Super Kings despite scoring 176 runs in 20 overs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, expressed disappointment with his bowlers' performance during the powerplay overs. They will need to work on it because the opening batter believes it to be the team's weakest point. Gaikwad said, “We have failed to take wickets in the powerplay overs and this is one area where we need an improvement. On venues where we are 10 runs short, the only way to win a game is by taking wickets in the powerplay. We will discuss it to rectify the shortcomings before our next match.”

In this match, the team's poor performance was seen in the power play. CSK had lost 2 wickets in the first 3 overs. The team was at a loss of 7-2 wickets. It has always been the record of CSK that they perform poorly in the power play and later chase the target quickly and register a victory.

4. Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Batting first on April 5, Chennai had set a target of 165. CSK had to face defeat in this match also. Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated CSK by 6 wickets. CSK lost 2 wickets in 7.1 overs. The team's score was just 52 when CSK suffered a blow from Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings

In the 22nd match of IPL, Chennai Super Kings once again started their winning streak by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders. CSK won this match by 7 wickets. Even though CSK won this match, CSK performed well in the power play. The team had lost 1 wicket in just 3.2 overs in this match. After that, the team made a comeback in the match and scored around 95 runs in 12 overs.

6. Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians

In the CSK vs MI match held on 14th April, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 20 runs. Even though CSK won this match, their team had a slow start. CSK were 60-2 in 7.5 overs. CSK had lost 2 wickets in the power play.

LSG has won the match against CSK. Chennai was not looking in any special form in this match. CSK lost 2 wickets for 33 runs in 4.2 overs. After this CSK were 68-3 in 8.1 overs.

As we saw all the stats, we can see that CSK had a good start but by the time they went forward in the tournament their bowling and bowling performance went down. In the powerplay where they gave a bad start, we saw that they lost the game. So, Chennai Super Kings need to focus on their bowling and batting both in the powerplay otherwise their performance in the tournament will go down which is not beneficial for the team.
