Who is Richard Gleeson? Check out CSK's latest recruit

Richard Gleeson is a right-arm pacer hailing from Blackpool in Lancashire, England. Gleeson was a late bloomer and made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire in 2015 at the age of 27. Then in 2016, the right-arm pacer made his List-A debut for Northamptonshire against Lancashire. However, he rose to prominence after he moved to Lancashire towards the end of the 2018 season.

Gleeson was one of the consistent performers for his county side and courtesy of this, he received contracts in different franchise leagues such as Big Bash League and Abu Dhabi T10 league. The ace pacer showed his ability to make the ball talk at the start of the innings to give the side early breakthroughs and he had the skillset to strike at the death overs. He started being regarded as a T20 specialist and England liked what they saw in Gleeson, handing him a maiden international call-up in 2022.

Gleeson had a phenomenal start to his T20I career as he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in his first eight balls. The right-arm pacer ended his debut match with exceptional figures of 4-1-15-3. However, he failed to make the opportunities count following his impressive debut and has not been a regular feature in the T20Is of late. However, Gleeson has been in and around the T20 circuit and continued featuring for multiple teams across numerous T20 tournaments such as Pakistan Super League, SA 20, International League T20 and The Hundred.

With Devon Conway ruled out of IPL 2024 due to injury, Chennai Super Kings has handed Gleeson his first IPL gig and roped him in for the remainder of the ongoing season. The 36-year-old is an experienced customer and will look to make it big in the cash-rich league.
