March 28, 2024 at 6:37 AMRajiv Gandhi International Stadium hosted a run feast between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians where many records were shattered. Here is the list of all the major records broken in the game:
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 277/3 is the fourth-highest total in T20s and the highest outside of internationals. It is the highest in IPL’s 16-year history. They broke RCB’s 11-year record where they had scored 263/5 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013.
The 523 runs combined between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians is the highest match aggregate for any T20 match, surpassing the 517 runs between South Africa and West Indies in Centurion in 2023. It is the first time the 500-run mark has been reached in IPL history - the previous biggest was 469 runs.
# 38 sixes - The SRH vs MI match produced 38 sixes - 18 struck by Hyderabad and 20 by Mumbai. It is the most number of sixes in a T20 match. The previous highest was 37 sixes between Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan in the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League fixture in Sharjah, and a 2019 Caribbean Premier League match between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs.
# 246/5 - Mumbai’s total in the chase is their highest. It is also the highest score for any team in a run-chase in the IPL and the highest in a losing cause in the league. The previous biggest score by a team batting second in IPL was 226 by Rajasthan Royals against Punjab Kings in 2020.
# 16 balls - Abhishek Sharma took 16 balls to his half-century, setting the mark for the quickest fifty for the SRH. Four overs earlier, Travis Head had taken 18 balls to the mark.
# 66 runs - Kwena Maphaka conceded 66 runs from his four overs - the joint-third most by any bowler in an IPL match. It is also the most by any bowler on IPL debut, surpassing the 62 by Michael Neser.
The record-breaking game was full of thrill. In the end Sunrisers Beat Mumbai Indians by 31 runs.
